COACH/TEACHER RECOMMENDATIONS:
Elizabeth “Libby” Barbayhas been a member of my varsity softball team for the last 4 years. It is with great pleasure to share with you my experience with her as a player. My first encounter with Libby was when she was in 6th grade. Our softball
program at South Seneca had recently merged with Romulus Central School and we had invited Romulus students to attend our pre-season open gyms for softball. Libby was attending RCS. She immediately struck me as a student that loved softball. She had already been playing softball on a local travel team as their catcher. She was hard working in practice and eager to learn as much as she could. It did not take us much time to figure out she had great eye-hand coordination and great instincts for softball. Her skill level was well above players her own age.
When Libby was eligible, we asked her if she would be interested in playing on the varsity team as a 7th grader. She jumped at the chance and easily passed the selection classification test allowing her to do so. At the beginning of her first varsity season, we took another leap of faith with Libby asking her to consider pitching for us. We knew she was athletic enough so we had no doubt she would work hard at it. Without hesitation, Libby said she would do whatever the team needed.
At the beginning of her 3rd season with us, we made Libby one of our captains (as a freshman). Her leadership on and off the field has helped many players improve their play. She is a tough competitor and never quits and emulates this to her teammates. As our pitcher, she demonstrates the mental toughness you need to stand on the mound. When not on the mound, she plays shortstop and third base like a veteran. Her fielding and throwing mechanics are superior. Libby batted clean-up for our team this year with 25 RBI’s and a batting average of .635. Her batting swing is flawless.
Libby will be a junior in high school this year but has already accrued many honors playing on her high school softball team. The last 3 years she has been selected as a Finger Lakes West 1st team player. This last season she was also selected as “Player of the Year” for the Finger Lakes West. She has been the South Seneca/Romulus MVP for varsity Softball the last 3 seasons.
If you are looking for a smart, hard-working, competitive, coachable, outstanding athlete, Libby Barbay will not disappoint. I have no doubt that Libby would be an outstanding member to your softball program.
